Purple Ribbon Beef

Purple Ribbon Beef is dedicated to providing premium beef to your table.  Our beef tastes better because we pay attention to the little details as every animal is born on our farm and in our care until we deliver them to the local processor. All the animals have corn-fed diet which results in a more tender and tastier beef. In addition, when the beef is processed it is dry-aged 10-14 days. The dry-aged process allows the beef to increase in tenderness and a more beefy flavor than compared to the beef in grocery stores that is not dry-aged.

Pete and Cindy were honored to be recognized by the Iowa Shorthorn Association at their Annual Banquet in March 2024 for all their years of dedication to the breed.

About their involvement in the breed:

Pete and Cindy Hunter, respected figures in the Shorthorn cattle community, have been selected as the Iowa Shorthorn Association Breeder of the Year, a testament to their unwavering dedication and contributions to the breed. With a profound passion for Shorthorns that spans decades, Pete and Cindy have not only excelled in exhibiting their cattle at prestigious shows nationwide but have also wholeheartedly supported the junior program, nurturing future generations of Shorthorn enthusiasts.

Their journey in the world of Shorthorn began long ago, rooted in a deep love for the breed and a commitment to fostering camaraderie within the community. While they have celebrated numerous victories and national championships in the show ring, their true joy lies in their involvement with the junior program. Pete and Cindy have selflessly devoted countless hours to mentoring young exhibitors like Sara and Ashley, guiding them to success both in Iowa and beyond.

During their tenure as Iowa Junior Shorthorn Association Advisors, Pete and Cindy left an indelible mark, igniting the passion for Shorthorns in countless juniors. Cindy's dedication to ensuring every exhibitor participated in various contests and facilitating meaningful connections among peers having left a legacy of friendship and camaraderie within the Shorthorn community.

Their commitment to the National Junior Shorthorn Show was unmistakable, as they played pivotal roles in organizing two highly successful shows in Des Moines, setting new records and inspiring future generations of Shorthorn enthusiasts.

Transitioning from their advisory roles and the conclusion of their daughters' showing careers, Pete assumed the role of General Manager at Cyclone Trace Cattle Company, leaving an enduring imprint on the breed's history with numerous national champions and influential donors still revered today. Throughout this period, both Pete and Cindy remained steadfast in their support of junior exhibitors, known for their hospitality and generosity at shows, ensuring that no one went hungry at Cindy's stalls.

Now embarking on a new chapter with Purple Ribbon Beef, their direct-to-consumer beef business, Pete and Cindy continue to exemplify innovation and dedication. Shipping premium beef across the nation weekly and engaging with their local community through farmers' markets, they remain committed to excellence in every aspect of their endeavors.

Looking ahead, Pete and Cindy eagerly anticipate the possibility of their granddaughter stepping into the show ring, eager to share their passion for Shorthorns with the next generation. As pillars of the Shorthorn community, their legacy of excellence, mentorship, and camaraderie will continue to inspire and uplift for years to come.
